Milo Thatch, a museum worker, believes Atlantis is real and sets out to find it with the guidance of the enigmatic Shepherd's Journal. After being rejected by his employer, he receives unexpected help from an old friend of his grandfather, Preston B. Whitmore, who provides a submarine and a skilled crew. Together, they brave the Atlantic Ocean, overcome the massive Leviathan, and finally reach the fabled city of Atlantis, only to discover that the motivations of the Atlantis crew differ from Milo's.
