In Manhattan, a young couple, Sofia and Tom, navigate their new roles as parents after the birth of their child. Tom, a cook, struggles to find a stable job, while Sofia, an attorney, decides to be a full-time mom. When Tom gets fired, he takes a job at an ad agency in Ohio, where his father-in-law works, and is forced to report to Chip, his high school ex-girlfriend Sofia's current rival.
