Sig Libowitz is a multifaceted individual with a diverse range of skills and accomplishments. He is an award-winning producer, writer, actor, attorney, and former studio and production executive.
As a writer and producer, Sig is best known for his work on the courtroom drama "The Response" (2008),which was shortlisted for an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. The film is a non-partisan look at the Guantanamo Bay military tribunals and was based on actual transcripts. It won several awards, including the ABA Silver Gavel Award for Best of the Year in Drama and Literature.
Sig has also produced other films, including the romantic comedy "At Middleton" (2013),which starred Andy Garcia and Vera Farmiga. The film won several festival awards and was released theatrically.
In addition to his work in film, Sig has a background in law. He served as the Executive-in-Charge of Production for the film "In the Bedroom" (2001),which was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. He has also worked as a Vice-President of Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Paramount Classics, a Director of Production at Film Four, and a Production Executive at Good Machine.
As an actor, Sig has appeared in several films and television shows, including "The Sopranos" and "Law & Order". He has also had a featured role in the film "The Believer" (2001),which won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Feature.
Sig has also been involved in several other projects, including writing and optioned screenplays, treatments, and plays. He has also lectured and served on panels across the United States and England, discussing Guantanamo, U.S. detention policies post 9/11, and the "War on Terror".
In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Sig is also a licensed attorney with a legal practice that covers Entertainment, Copyright, White Collar, Congressional and internal investigations, National Security and FCPA compliance. He is an honors graduate of both New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and the University of Maryland School of Law.
Sig has received several awards for his work, including the 2010 Benjamin Civiletti DC Pro Bono of the Year award for his work in helping to win the release of a man who had been wrongly convicted and served nearly 19 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
