Carl Horner is a renowned visual effects artist, production designer, and art director who has made a significant impact in the film and design industries. As a VES Award-nominated visual effects artist (2012),he has demonstrated his exceptional skills in creating captivating visual effects. Furthermore, his impressive portfolio includes a THEA Award win as a Senior Production Designer at Walt Disney Imagineering on the Tokyo DisneySea theme park, showcasing his ability to create immersive and engaging environments.
As a versatile professional, Carl effortlessly navigates the narrative spectrum, seamlessly transitioning between design, visuals, graphics, spoken, and written words. His impressive range of skills allows him to effectively "tell the story" in various formats.
Throughout his illustrious career, Carl has worn multiple hats in the film industry, taking on roles such as Art Director on Rob Zombie's film, Werewolf Women of the SS, part of Robert Rodriguez's and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse (2007). He has also served as Special Effects Supervisor on Stephen King's The Dark Half (1993) and Miniature Effects Supervisor on Touchstone Pictures' Spaced Invaders (1990).
In addition to his work in the film industry, Carl has applied his skills to real-world design projects for Fortune 100 companies, agencies of the United States Government, and the nation's largest defense contractors. He was a valued team member at Applied Minds, Inc., which Newsweek magazine hailed as the "virtual museum of the future." Carl also shared his expertise as an instructor at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, teaching in the Industrial Design Technology department. During his tenure, he not only taught but also wrote, produced, and directed instructional videos, and developed curriculum, including the "Psychology of Perception" and "Film Making I & II."
Currently, Carl is a team member at 5+Design, one of Los Angeles' premiere architectural firms and a global leader in mixed-use architecture.
