Based on Susanna Kaysen's memoir, the film tells the story of her 18-month stay in a mental hospital during the late 1960s.

In 1967, Susanna Kaysen, a troubled teenager, checks into Claymoore mental institution after a self-destructive act. Diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, she's introduced to a diverse group of patients, each with their own unique struggles.
