In 1979, a CIA agent assumes the role of a Hollywood producer to orchestrate a bold rescue mission, targeting six American hostages held captive in Tehran during the Iran hostage crisis.

Iranian militants stormed the US Embassy in Tehran in November 1979, taking 56 Americans hostage. Six Americans managed to escape and sought refuge in the Canadian Ambassador's home. The CIA and State Department devised a plan to rescue them, with Tony Mendez proposing they pose as a Canadian film crew scouting locations for a science fiction movie called Argo.
