Elder Farrell and Elder Lozano, two Mormon missionary companions, are a study in contrasts. Elder Farrell is bookish and focused on seeking potential converts, while Elder Lozano has a rough past, having been shot by a rival gang and converting to the LDS church while recovering in a hospital. Despite their differences, they find themselves in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting in Venice, California, and Elder Lozano helps an African American gang member, Carl, who is seriously wounded.
