Noted American character actress of Russian descent, renowned for her impressive career in silent films and early talkies, migrated to the United States at the tender age of seven alongside her family. From a young age, she was drawn to the world of theatre, participating in numerous productions and even joining the Jewish theatre scene in New York for several years.
It wasn't until the age of 34 that she caught the attention of acclaimed director Frank Borzage, who cast her in his 1920 film adaptation of 'Humoresque'. This marked the beginning of a prolific career, during which she appeared in dozens of films, often taking on the role of the family matriarch.
In addition to her dramatic work, she also made appearances in several films from the popular Cohens and Kellys comedy series. Tragically, her life was cut short, and she passed away in 1948.
