Writer and Director Steffen Haars, born in 1980, experienced unparalleled success with the New Kids film series, set in the small town of Maaskantje, where he and his younger brother, actor Tim Haars, spent their formative years.
The New Kids movies, penned and directed by Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil, attracted a massive audience of 1.6 million people to Dutch theaters, with New Kids Turbo (2010) and its sequel, New Kids Nitro, released the following year. The latter won the prestigious Best Comedy award at Fantastic Fest.
In 2013, Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil released Bros Before Hos, starring Tim Haars alongside Sylvia Hoeks, who is also known for her role in Bladerunner 2049.
The following year, Ron Goossens Low Budget Stuntman premiered, featuring Tim Haars in the lead role. The film received glowing reviews from Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Fast-forward to 2017, Steffen Haars and Flip van der Kuil's fifth feature film, Krazy House, starring Nick Frost and Alicia Silverstone, made its world premiere at the esteemed Sundance Film Festival.
This year, 2024, marks the release of Steffen Haars' slasher comedy, Get Away, written by Nick Frost, which will have its world premiere at Fantastic Fest. After its theatrical run, Get Away will debut exclusively on Shudder in 2025.
