Sridhar Rangayan is a renowned Indian filmmaker, celebrated for his thought-provoking movies that tackle challenging social issues with empathy, humor, and warmth. His critically acclaimed films are at the forefront of India's burgeoning queer cinema movement, a groundbreaking development in a country where homosexuality is still widely stigmatized.
Rangayan's impressive body of work includes Evening Shadows, Breaking Free, Purple Skies, 68 Pages, Yours Emotionally!, and The Pink Mirror (Gulabi Aaina),all of which have garnered numerous awards and accolades.
As a respected industry figure, Rangayan has served as a juror for several prestigious film festivals, including Image+Nation LGBT film festival 2020 in Montreal, Mardigras 2018 in Sydney, Iris Prize 2013 in the UK, Outfest 2012 in Los Angeles, Teddy Jury at the Berlinale 2010 in Berlin, and Movies That Matter 2010 in the Netherlands.
Rangayan is also the Founder and Festival Director of KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival, a historic event that became the first queer film festival to be held at a mainstream theater in India. Furthermore, he is the Founder Trustee and former Board member of The Humsafar Trust, one of India's oldest and largest community-based organizations working towards the rights and health of MSM and Transgender populations.
In addition to his filmmaking and advocacy work, Rangayan co-founded Solaris Pictures with Saagar Gupta, the only film production and distribution company in India focused exclusively on LGBT issues.
