Pennan Brae is a multifaceted artist based in Vancouver, whose creative endeavors encompass both screenwriting and singer-songwriting. His music is distinguished by its vintage 1970s flair, characterized by lush string arrangements, roaming pedal steel guitar, and a rich, driving beat.
As a filmmaker, Pennan's work often incorporates different historical eras, set against an emotional backdrop. His 7th musical release, 2 Below 0, is accompanied by a film of the same name, which he wrote and acted in. The 6th album, Gravity-The Astronot, is a sequel soundtrack to the Astronot Soundtrack, featuring eight songs from the accompanying feature film The Astronot, which Pennan wrote, co-produced, and acted in.
The album was recorded at Blue Light Studio in Vancouver with producer Kaj Falch-Nielsen, with additional sessions taking place in Los Angeles with renowned drummer Steve Ferrone and INXS bassist Garry Gary Beers. Pennan has expressed his admiration for working with Steve and Garry, stating that it was a highlight of his career.
Composer and producer Eric Alexandrakis served as a mentor and one of the producers on The Astronot, and was instrumental in bringing in Steve and Garry. The album was mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Sean Magee at Abbey Road Studios.
Following the release of The Astronot in 2018, Pennan released 2 Below 0 in 2019, a feature film he wrote and filmed with director Tim Cash of Far From Earth Films. The dark comedy is set along the Canadian/USA border in the winter of 1979 and was filmed during the biggest snowstorm in over a century in Central Oregon.
Later in the fall of 2019, Pennan and director Tim Cash released Strut-1980s, a music video with a creative twist and the lead single off Gravity-The Astronot.
