Norwegian character actor, born into a family of actors, son of Henny Skjønberg and Eugen Skjønberg, and brother of Espen Skjønberg, was destined for a life in the theater from an early age. Despite being educated as an engineer, his passion for the stage was too strong to ignore, and in 1945, he made his stage debut at The Norwegian Theater in Oslo, a role he would continue to play until his retirement.
Throughout his illustrious career, Skjønberg had the privilege of portraying many leading roles in the works of Henrik Ibsen, including Dr. Rank, Gregers Werle, assessor Brack, and Johannes Rosmer. Additionally, he took on the title role in the play "Exit the King" by Ionesco, showcasing his impressive range as a thespian.
As a gifted stage director, Skjønberg brought his unique perspective to the world of theater, guiding productions with ease and finesse. On the big screen, he was a trusted supporting actor, often taking on leading roles that showcased his remarkable talent. Some of his most notable film credits include Olav Jansen in "På slaget åtte" (1957),Per Holm in "Ut av mørket" (1958),Quist in "Elskere" (1963),and Robert in "For dagene er onde" (1991).
Skjønberg's impressive repertoire also extended to radio and television plays, solidifying his status as a beloved and respected figure in the Norwegian entertainment industry.
