Nic Bettauer resides and works in Venice, California, where the realms of art and social service converge. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, a Master of Social Work degree with distinction from USC's School of Social Work, and a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction from Stanford University. Additionally, she completed studies at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts.
Nic's most recent project is the feature film "Duck", which she wrote, directed, and produced. The film tells the story of an elderly man who loses his home and embarks on a journey across Los Angeles, accompanied by a duck who has become like family to him. The film explores themes of purpose, redemption, and grace, and has been compared to "The Little Prince" and "Jonathan Livingston Seagull".
Nic is also working on several other projects, including "The Circle Game", a screenplay about a singular love story that she co-wrote and will direct. She is developing "The Dogcatcher", a comedic adventure about a serial optimist, and serializing "Canary", a tale of an anti-hero detective solving a social ill.
Nic has also worked as a documentarian and art facilitator for The Painted Brain, a non-profit that uses the arts to support young adults living with mental illness. She has also worked with Diverse Journeys, providing creative supportive services to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Additionally, she volunteers as a crisis counselor with the Crisis Text Line.
Nic is passionate about storytelling, photography, and travel, and strives to be an experiential learner, always seeking to hear and tell new stories.
