Luther Standing Bear, born Plenty Kill, was a renowned Oglala Lakota Native American writer and actor, and one of the pioneering students of the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, a highly controversial institution located in Pennsylvania. Standing Bear's journey in the entertainment industry began as an interpreter, dancer, and skilled horseback rider with the illustrious Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, which traversed the United States during the early 20th century. Between 1910 and the 1930s, he emerged as a leading figure in several notable western films. As a published author, Standing Bear is best known for his literary works, including the esteemed "My People the Sioux" (1928),"Land of the Spotted Eagle" (1933),and "Stories of the Sioux" (1934).
