Oscar-winning Danish director Laurits Munch-Petersen was born on July 19, 1973, on the picturesque island of Bornholm. This talented filmmaker graduated from the prestigious National Film School of Denmark in 2003 with his debut feature film "Between Us", which went on to win an impressive 14 international awards, including an Academy Award, and holds the record for the most award-winning film to emerge from the esteemed institution to date.
Throughout his illustrious career, Laurits has written and directed a plethora of award-winning documentaries, TV series, feature films, music videos, and commercials. His feature film debut, "Ambulance" (2005),was subsequently remade in 2022 by Hollywood icon Michael Bay, starring the talented Jake Gyllenhaal, who has appeared in a wide range of critically acclaimed films, including "Brokeback Mountain", "Nightcrawler", and "Nocturnal Animals".
Laurits' second feature film, the surreal thriller "Over the Edge" (2012),discovered the talented Danish actress Danica Curcic and earned a nomination for a Robert award. His third feature film, "Shadow of a Hero" (2015),is a deeply personal project that chronicles the director's own family story and was nominated for a Bodil award, while also winning several international accolades.
Throughout his life, Laurits has resided in various locations, including Mexico and Spain, but currently calls Copenhagen home. He is a devoted father of three daughters, who have made numerous appearances in his films, including the popular TV series "On the Road with Dad". Laurits is currently working on the TV series "Crasher", which is based on Søren Kierkegaard's influential work "The Seducer's Diary", as well as his upcoming feature film "Pink Dad", which is set to be shot in the Faroe Islands in 2024.
