Katarina Launing, a talented film director, was born in Sweden and later pursued her passion for directing at the renowned Norwegian Film School, graduating in 2001. Since then, she has made a significant impact in the industry, directing both television and cinematic productions with a diverse range of works, including series and feature films.
Launing's feature film debut, the family adventure film Magic Silver (2009),was a collaborative effort with Roar Uthaug, marking the beginning of her successful career as a feature film director. Her subsequent feature, Cool Kids Don't Cry (2014),won several prestigious awards, including the ECFA Award and Audience Award at the BUFF and Oulu Film Festival.
In 2017, Launing directed the 3D feature film Battle, which became the first Nordic film to be released under the Netflix Originals banner. The film's immense popularity led to the creation of a sequel. Her fourth feature, the family adventure film Dragon Girl, received widespread acclaim, winning the Gryphon Award for Best Film at the Giffoni Film Festival and the Amanda Award for Best VFX, both in the same year.
In addition to her work in feature films, Launing has also made significant contributions to television, conceptualizing the national broadcaster in Norway's "Tainted" series, as well as co-directing the hit crime series "Wisting" for Viaplay, alongside series creator and co-director Trygve Allister Disen.
