Jesse Billauer was born on February 24th, 1979, at the NaturalChildbirth Institute in Culver City, California, a unique birth experience that would foreshadow his unconventional life. As a youth, Jesse was blessed with the desire and coordination to excel at various sports in his hometown of Pacific Palisades, earning a reputation as a star athlete in baseball, soccer, and floor hockey.
In floor hockey, Jesse dominated the league, earning the nickname "Wayne Gretzky" and collecting a multitude of trophies, which he had to carry away in a shopping cart. In his free time, Jesse enjoyed snowboarding, water/snow skiing, and ice hockey. As he grew older, Jesse developed a fascination with the water, which became his source of strength, relaxation, and contemplation.
Jesse's love affair with the ocean began around the age of nine, when his brother Josh and friend John Hearne introduced him to the world of surfing. It was love at first sight, and soon surfing became his passion, eclipsing almost all other activities. He surfed at various spots along the coast, including Point Mugu Military Base, Zuma, and Supertubes.
Jesse's connection to the ocean extended to fishing as well. He and his family took special fishing trips to Cabo San Lucas, where deep sea fishing became a second passion of his. His first trip resulted in catching his first marlin, a catch more than twice his size. This passion became so intense that he took a job as a deckhand on the "Happy Man" fishing charter out of Marina del Rey, where he would spend his days fishing and doing various tasks in exchange for free fishing and a "catch of the day" to take home.
