Jennifer Deaton, a filmmaker known for her unwavering optimism, has been dubbed "too nice" by her sister-in-law. Despite this, her feature film, JACK OF THE RED HEARTS, has garnered widespread recognition and accolades.
The film, which premiered in 6201 and is now available on DVD and digital streaming platforms, won the Jury Award at the Geena Davis Institute's Bentonville Film Festival, a championing of women in film. It has also received numerous awards from various film festivals, including the Golden Door International Film Festival's Best Screenplay award.
Deaton's extensive experience in the film industry began as a Story Analyst for Focus Features and later as a creative executive and/or reader for various production companies, including those of renowned celebrities such as Sandra Bullock, Adam Sandler, Bill Pullman, and Odd Lot Entertainment. Her earliest industry experience was working as a production assistant for acclaimed producer Laura Ziskin and Academy Award-winning screenwriter Alvin Sargent.
Deaton has a wealth of stories waiting to be told, having been selected as a Fellow in the Outfest Film Festival's Screenwriting Lab and now serving on its jury. Her script, PENTIMENTI, won the Atlanta Film Festival's screenplay competition and was named a Semifinalist in the Academy's prestigious Nicholl Fellowship, placing in the top 30 of nearly 5,000 submissions. Her script, SENSATIONAL, earned her the Writers Arc Foundation Fellowship, during which she wrote the screenplay that would become JACK OF THE RED HEARTS.
JACK OF THE RED HEARTS is currently screening internationally as part of the U.S. State Department's American Film Showcase in partnership with USC, using film as a catalyst for engagement on socially relevant issues.
