Noted New Yorker, James Gregory, opted to trade in his suit and tie as a stockbroker for the bright lights and demanding applause of the Broadway stage, marking the beginning of his illustrious acting career. His cinematic debut arrived in 1948, setting the stage for a long and distinguished run in Hollywood. Gregory's acting repertoire was characterized by his uncanny ability to bring to life larger-than-life characters, often portraying loud, boisterous, and authoritative figures, such as tough-as-nails cops and no-nonsense businessmen. One of his most notable roles was that of the tenacious detective tasked with bringing down notorious gangster Al Capone in the 1959 film, Al Capone. Additionally, Gregory lent his talents to the "Matt Helm" spy film series, playing the role of Dean Martin's boss in three of the four installments, bringing his signature bravado and charisma to the screen. His most memorable and iconic performance, however, was likely that of the outspoken and cantankerous Inspector Luger in the popular television series Barney Miller, which aired from 1975.
