Person Biography:
Douglass K. Davies is a renowned novelist, screenwriter, director/producer, and former public relations executive from the United States. Born in coastal northern California, his work often reflects his love for the sea. Raised in the Redwoods of Monterey Bay Area, Davies developed an early fascination with language and the spoken word.
As a child, he would write stories, even when sick with a fever, because he wanted to "be somewhere else." His family, of Welsh-German-Irish heritage, was rich in literature, arts, and world history. His father, an avid reader, was his most formidable critic, while his mother, a piano and voice teacher, filled the home with classical music.
Growing up, Davies was influenced by the reclusive world-famous director Alfred Hitchcock, who lived nearby and would often entertain Hollywood royalty at his vineyard estate. Davies' first feature screenplay was written while working as a firefighter, and his famous card table, "the studio," was where he would share his creations with fellow firefighters.
Davies' work has been recognized internationally, with awards for Best Screenplay and several independent features. His brother, Geoffrey, a wireless communications engineer, joined him as a producer, and they have developed a slate of pictures for broadcast television and theatrical exhibition.
