Crystal Pate, a talented individual, was born in Norderstedt, Germany, to a family with a rich cultural heritage. As the oldest daughter of renowned Swiss-German actor Benedict Freitag, younger brother of British actor Oliver Tobias, Crystal was exposed to the world of acting from a young age.
Growing up in Europe, Crystal spent her formative years in Tuscany, Italy, where she was mainly raised. During her summers, she would often visit her paternal grandparents, Maria Becker and Robert Freitag, renowned stage actors, in Zurich, Switzerland.
Crystal's passion for the performing arts led her to study acting and opera (mezzo-soprano) in Florence, Italy. After completing her studies, she moved to Texas, her mother Deborah Barrow's hometown, in her early twenties.
Crystal still resides in the Dallas area with her husband, Brent Stroessner, and frequently returns to Europe to maintain her connection with her roots.
