Colin and his brother Greg, both self-taught artists, have had a meteoric rise to become renowned visual effects gurus. They started working on local cable commercials in the suburbs of Chicago, before moving to Hollywood as teenagers in the mid-1990s.
Their careers began on the original run of The X-Files television show, and they then worked on early CG-driven features such as The Nutty Professor, Volcano, and the iceberg sequence of James Cameron's Titanic. In 2002, they founded their own visual effects house, Hydraulx, and have since worked on over ninety feature films, including Avatar, The Avengers, Skyfall, 300, Captain America, 2012, Iron Man 2, Battle: Los Angeles, and The Day After Tomorrow.
Greg won a BAFTA for Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects for their work on The Day After Tomorrow. Colin won a MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction for the Red Hot Chili Peppers' video, "Californication." This led to them directing music videos for Linkin Park, A Perfect Circle, 50 Cent, and Usher, as well as campaigns for Toyota, Universal Studios, PlayStation, Gatorade, Coca-Cola, Ford, Pennzoil, and Shell.
In 2007, they co-directed their first feature, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, which grossed over $156 million worldwide. They then produced Skyline independently, which was acquired by Relativity Media and distributed by Universal Studios, grossing over $80 million worldwide. They recently produced Beyond Skyline, starring Frank Grillo and Iko Uwais.
In 2015, Colin served as the lead Visual Effects Supervisor on San Andreas, which grossed over $470 million worldwide and earned four nominations from the Visual Effects Society Awards. He has also supervised Death Note and Baywatch, and is currently working on Rampage.
Hydraulx has worked on a number of films, including X-Men: Apocalypse, The Conjuring 2, Midnight Special, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Into the Storm. They have also executive produced The Bay and Take Shelter, and have future producing projects including The Mighty 8th and Alien Ark.
