After completing his secondary education, Heald furthered his academic pursuits at Michigan State University, earning his degree in 1971. Following his educational endeavors, he relocated to Ashland, Oregon, where he became an integral part of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival acting company from 1997 to 1999.
