Kanwar, a talented individual, hails from the vibrant city of Chandigarh, India, where she spent her formative years. With a strong foundation in the performing arts, she graduated from the prestigious National School of Drama in the esteemed 1978 batch. Kanwar's passion for acting led her to make her debut in the film industry with the 1980 movie Dostana.
Following her breakthrough performance, Kanwar went on to work on numerous films, including the critically acclaimed Mahesh Bhatt-directed "Janam" in 1985 and Mira Nair's internationally recognized "Salaam Bombay!" in 1988. Her remarkable portrayal in the latter earned her nominations for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in both 1986 and 1990.
After a hiatus from the television and film scene, Kanwar returned to the spotlight with a memorable role as Inspector KC, Chief of Homicide, in the 1998 Star Plus crime series "Saboot".
