Biography

Aleksandr Viktorovich Zbruyev, a renowned Russian actor, was born on March 31, 1938, in Moscow, Russia. His father, Viktor Alekseevich Zbruyev, held a high-ranking position as the Vice-Minister for Communications in the Soviet government, while his mother, Tatiana Aleksandrovna Fedorova, a descendant of Russian landed gentry, worked for a Moscow film company.

Before Aleksandr's birth, his father was arrested in 1937, accused of being an "enemy of the Soviet people" during the "Great Terror" under Joseph Stalin. After a 15-minute court procedure, Zbruyev's father was executed by gunshot to the head. At the time, his mother was pregnant with Aleksandr.

Aleksandr never saw his father, and his childhood was marked by hardship and emotional pain. His mother, a young film actress, was exiled with her newborn baby from their home in Moscow. After spending five years in exile, they returned to their home, only to find it robbed and vandalized by the KGB.

Zbruyev experienced hatred and bullying at his Moscow school due to his father's execution, and he struggled to survive with his mother. Despite these challenges, he pursued his dreams of becoming a sport-star and an actor, achieving success in boxing and gymnastics.

In 1958, Aleksandr was admitted to the Shchukin Theatre School, graduating in 1961 as an actor. Since then, he has been a permanent member of the Moscow Lenkom Theatre troupe, playing leading and supporting roles in numerous stage productions.

Zbruyev gained fame in 1962 after his outstanding performance in the leading role of "My Younger Brother" (1962),an adaptation of Vasiliy Aksyonov's popular novel. He became an instant celebrity in the USSR alongside his film partners Andrey Mironov, Oleg Dal, and Oleg Efremov.

Throughout his career, Aleksandr has played many leading roles in Soviet and Russian films, earning numerous awards and decorations for his work. He was designated People's Actor of Russia in 1989 and remains the leading star of the Moscow Lenkom Theatre under the Artistic Director Mark Zakharov.

Since 1995, Zbruyev has also owned the popular restaurant "TRAM" (Theatre Restaurant of Moscow Actors) located at the Lenkom Theatre. He currently resides in Moscow, Russia.
