How to Beat the High Cost of Living

In 1980s Oregon, three friends, Jane, Elaine, and Louise, are struggling to make ends meet due to inflation. Jane faces financial constraints, including the inability to afford a babysitter or marriage, while her war veteran father moves in. Louise's antique shop is deemed a hobby by the IRS, putting her business at risk. Meanwhile, Elaine's husband leaves her for another woman, leaving her penniless. The trio concocts a plan to steal money from a giant ball at the local mall, which promises to combat inflation. However, their scheme is plagued by a series of mishaps.
