In 1973, a 19-year-old gay rights activist named Tommy and a 24-year-old Alan, with differing political views, form a lasting relationship despite their differences. However, in 1977, Alan's previously unpublished book, which he wrote years prior, is released without his consent by Anita Bryant, damaging Tommy's reputation as an activist and ultimately leading to their breakup. Seven years later, Alan gets a second chance at redemption, reuniting with Tommy and attempting to make amends.
