In a swampy territory, a disgruntled ogre is tasked with a treacherous quest to free a captive princess and reclaim his homeland after a powerful lord casts out a legion of magical creatures to his territory.

A green ogre named Shrek discovers his swamp overrun with fairytale creatures, prompting him to embark on a journey with a loud donkey to reclaim his home. Along the way, he agrees to rescue Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a dragon, only to find himself falling for the princess, who harbors a surprising secret.
