James Stewart's character, Detective Guy Johnson, goes undercover to protect his client Willie Heywood, who's been framed for murder. As they evade capture, they're eventually caught, put on trial, and sentenced to prison - Guy for a year, Willie to death. However, Guy manages to break free from his captors and continues the investigation.
