Anna, a rebellious teenager and guitarist for a punk rock band, struggles with high school life, including bullying and a failing grade given out of spite. Meanwhile, her mother Tess, a successful author and psychologist, is engaged but unhappy with her life. When the two switch bodies, Tess must navigate Anna's school life, confronting bullying, a difficult teacher, and unrequited love, while Anna learns about her mother's struggles and the reasons behind her mother's disapproval.
