Dina Spybey Waters, a diminutive, stage-trained blonde actress, is renowned for her portrayals of innocent or unconventional characters. Her early breakthrough came in 1992, when she won a Daytime Emmy Award for her leading role in the fact-based HBO special, Public Law 106: The Becky Bell Story, depicting an underage teenager.
In 2000, she married director Mark Waters, and subsequently changed her professional name to reflect their union. The couple collaborated on several projects, including the 2003 film Freaky Friday and the 2005 film Just Like Heaven. In the latter, she delivered a standout performance as Reese Witherspoon's protective, married-with-kids sister, expertly balancing her signature high-pitched comedic energy with convincing emotional moments.
Prior to her career on stage, Waters earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Ohio State University and a Master of Fine Arts from Rutgers University. She began her career on stage, appearing in numerous Broadway and off-Broadway plays, including Alan Ball's "Five Women Wearing the Same Dress", for which she received a Theatre World Award for Outstanding New Talent, "Blue Light" and "The Shawl", both directed by Sidney Lumet, and "The Iceman Cometh", opposite Kevin Spacey.
