Stockholm

The 1973 Stockholm bank heist and hostage crisis, a bizarre and true event, gave rise to the phenomenon known as the "Stockholm Syndrome".

The 1973 Stockholm bank robbery led to the creation of the term Stockholm Syndrome, describing the phenomenon where captives develop empathy for their captors. A lone armed man, later revealed to be Lars Nystrom, stormed the Kreditbanken branch, demanding $1 million, the release of a convicted bank robber, and a Mustang Boss 302. As the standoff unfolded, three hostages remained, including bank clerk Bianca Lind, who began to trust Nystrom more than the authorities, including Chief of Police Mattsson and Prime Minister Olof Palme.
