Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher, a Los Angeles journalist, lives for his profession and has a reputation for publishing articles that have caused controversy. He goes undercover as a homeless man to research drugs and their dealings at the beach. When a wealthy man, Alan Stanwyk, approaches him with a $50,000 offer to kill his terminally ill wife, Fletch sees an opportunity to uncover the truth.
