In the small town of Ascension, a team led by constructor Thomas Walsh is working at the Mount Lincoln when sudden tremors and a falling tree branch kill one of Thomas' employees. As Thomas brings the body to town, he discovers that his sister, Grace, is planning a camping trip with her boyfriend, Jerrod, while their father, William, is convinced that an ancient being is about to be released and destroy the planet. Geologist Emily Allington returns to her hometown to investigate the tremors, and army representative Jack Murray arrives to search for a lost wallet. As the townspeople uncover the source of the tremors, they are faced with a terrifying reality.
