Audie Murphy's character, Yancey, a mountaineer-trapper, experiences city life for the first time with Rosalie, a young woman who fled her family to escape being traded for beaver pelts. Together, they encounter various misadventures in town, culminating in Yancey having to shoot the sheriff to rescue Rosalie from her job as a dance-hall girl.
