Albert and Harold Steptoe, a father-son duo of junk dealers, face financial struggles while residing in their junk yard home, with Harold perpetually concocting plans to elevate their situation.

Albert Steptoe, a junk dealer, and his son Harold live together at the junk yard. Harold invests Albert's life savings in a nearly blind greyhound, which loses a race, leaving Harold to pay off the debt. Desperate, Harold concocts a plan to collect his father's life insurance by making him appear dead.
