Pilot Mike Hogan, on administrative leave after taking the blame for an accident, is reluctantly reinstated as first officer when the airline faces a staffing shortage. His return is met with disdain by the well-connected commander, but Mike's unexpected heroism is soon called upon when the captain is knocked out, a collision occurs, and a murderer is on board, requiring brave actions from Mike, his crew, and several passengers, including soccer star Ty Conner.
