A young Czech orphan, befriended by an American army sergeant, stows away on a ship and is eventually brought to the sergeant's hometown in the United States. After being apprehended, the orphan escapes and befriends a young boy named Danny and his dog Rusty, a veteran of World War II. However, their friendship is soon disrupted when a third boy reports Loddy to the authorities, leading to a dramatic and perilous turn of events.
