In Baltimore from 1954 to 1955, racial integration transforms the high school, while TV replaces burlesque and rock and roll eclipses the Four Lads. Two brothers, Ben and Van, navigate "the other" - Ben befriends a Black student, Sylvia, while Van falls for a debutante, Dubbie, at a party in a wealthy neighborhood.
