Nick Powell, an exceptional high school student, earns extra money by selling his homework and quiz answers to his classmates. He dreams of attending a writing course in London, but keeps his plans from his mother, telling his best friend Pete Egan that he's already booked a flight. Meanwhile, Annie Newton seeks Pete for a debt he owes her. As the day progresses, a mistaken identity leads to Nick being brutally beaten by Annie and her gang, his body left in a sewer. Awakening the next morning, Nick finds himself invisible, stuck in a state of limbo, able only to watch as the day's events unfold.
