Eddie MacIntyre, a press agent and talent scout, plans to "plant" his actress girlfriend, Esther Harrington, in the Ozark Mountains and then "discover" her for a role in Perfection Pictures' upcoming production. However, he farms Esther out to a hillbilly family instead and accidentally discovers Judy Hull, the wrong girl, who becomes Perfection's Public Problem Number One. To void Judy's contract, Eddie is tasked with courting and marrying her, but he secretly plans to use a mind transference specialist to make her want to leave Hollywood and return to her farm.
