Marie Antoinette background

Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette, a 19-year-old queen, faced a tumultuous reign marked by tragedy and turmoil after ascending to the French throne.

Marie Antoinette's life is chronicled from her 1770 betrothal and marriage to her 1793 beheading. Initially, she's a sheltered teenager in France, living a sheltered life in the Dauphin's household, a shy man who'd rather be a locksmith. She discovers high society with the help of Orleans and her brothers-in-law, and her carefree nature peaks when she meets Axel de Fersen, a Swedish count who helps her realize her mistakes. Later, she avoids an annulment, becomes queen, has children, and proves to be a responsible ruler. However, her affair with the necklace and France's growing poverty contribute to the revolution, ultimately leading to her dignified death.
