A struggling writer, Solo, in Los Angeles, is haunted by his successful yet shameful first book and financial woes after a year of expensive therapy. He acquires a scrappy terrier, only to face a series of challenges: the dog's lack of house training, debt to a menacing individual, and a series of unfortunate events at a dog park. As he navigates these issues, Solo is confronted with the possibility of selling the dog to settle his debts, or he must confront the deeper reasons behind his reluctance to part with the dog.
