Biography

Mena Alexandra Suvari was born in Newport, Rhode Island, as the youngest of four children. Her father, Ando Suvari, was a psychiatrist, and her mother, Candice Chambers, was a nurse. Mena's first name comes from her British aunt, named after the "House of Mena" Hotel in Egypt, while her last name is Estonian.

Growing up in an old stone mansion, Mena was an imaginative child who dreamed of becoming an archaeologist, astronaut, or doctor. However, her interests took a turn when a modeling agency visited her all-girls school, and she began attending classes. At age 12, she was snapped up by the Manhattan-based Wilhelmina agency and moved to Los Angeles under their children's theatrical division WeeWillys.

Mena's television career started with commercials and guest appearances on shows such as Boy Meets World, ER, and Chicago Hope. She launched her film career in 1997, appearing in small roles in Nowhere and Kiss the Girls. Her breakthrough role came in 1999 with American Pie, followed by American Beauty, which earned her a British Academy Award nomination.

Mena's marriage to cinematographer Robert Brinkmann in 1999 was met with media attention due to their 18-year age difference. The couple divorced in 2004. In 2018, she married Canadian prop master Michael Hope, with whom she has a son, Christopher Alexander Hope, born in 2021.

Mena has also been involved in various creative pursuits, including writing her first book, "The Great Peace", published in 2021. Her hobbies include jewelry making, photography, mountain biking, and hiking.
