Yankel Bogovnik, a Russian Jew, has settled on New York City's Lower East Side, where he's assimilated into American life. He's working as a seamster and saving to bring his wife and son from Russia. When his family arrives, he's overjoyed, but his happiness is short-lived as his wife struggles to adapt to American life, unlike his dancer love interest.
