Biography

Yekaterina Rednikova's journey in the world of acting began in 1998, when she received a Nika award, often referred to as the "Russian Oscar", for her outstanding performance in Pavel Chukrai's film "The Thief". This marked her first lead role, and it was a turning point in her career.

The film's success led to international recognition, with "The Thief" being nominated for "Best Foreign Language Picture" at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Her performance earned her the nickname "the Russian Liv Ullmann" from Italian critics at the Venice Film Festival, inspiring her to pursue an international acting career.

Born in Moscow, Yekaterina is the daughter of an engineer, Valeriy Rednikov, and an accountant, Yelena Rednikova. Her older brother, Dmitriy, is a physicist who worked on the aftermath of the Chernobyl catastrophe before becoming a screenwriter.

Yekaterina's first stage experience was at the age of six, when she played two small roles with the renowned Lenkom theater company in Moscow. One of the accomplished actors she shared the stage with wrote her an autograph that changed her life and encouraged her to become an actress.

At the age of 17, Yekaterina entered the highly competitive Russian Theater Academy (GITIS). After graduating, she worked with several theater companies, often performing in American classics such as "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "Beyond the Horizon". This is ironic, given her connection to classic Russian playwright Anton Chekhov.

Following "The Thief", Yekaterina went on to play lead roles in movies in Russia, Turkey, Great Britain, and the United States. She was nominated for "Best Turkish Actress" at the Turkish Critic Awards in 2000 for her performance in the Turkish film "Balalayka", a remarkable achievement considering she did not speak Turkish before arriving on set.

In 2005, Yekaterina played the female lead opposite Daniel Craig in the BBC production "Archangel". Since 2003, she has been living between Moscow and Los Angeles, and is currently preparing for the role of Raisa Gorbachev in the upcoming project "Raisa", based on the life of former Russian President Michael Gorbachev.
