Walter Cichy, a native of Far Rockaway, New York, made the bold decision to leave his hometown behind and relocate to the bustling metropolis of New York City to pursue his academic endeavors at New York University. However, his time at NYU was short-lived, as he eventually dropped out and opted to attend a private photography and movie production school instead.
As the Vietnam War loomed on the horizon, Walter found himself facing the prospect of being drafted into military service. Rather than take a chance on the draft, he made the courageous decision to enlist in the United States Army as a photographer in 1967. After completing his basic training and specialist training in photography, Walter was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he would go on to serve for several years.
During his time in the Army, Walter had the opportunity to meet and fall in love with his girlfriend, Mikal Kirshner, whom he married in 1967. Mikal joined Walter in Colorado Springs, and the couple later shipped out to Anchorage, Alaska, where Walter spent two years serving as a Private First Class in the Army's photography unit.
Tragedy struck in 1970, however, when Walter and Mikal separated and eventually divorced in April 1971. Undeterred, Walter made the bold decision to relocate to Los Angeles, where he continued to pursue his passion for the movie industry. It was during this time that he met and married Vicki Turel, with whom he would go on to divorce before his untimely death in a car accident in 1978.
Throughout his life, Walter Cichy remained a dedicated and passionate individual, driven by his love of photography and the movie industry. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of his dreams, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues to inspire and influence those who knew him.
