Biography

Rachel Hannah Weisz was born on March 7, 1970, in London, United Kingdom, to Edith Ruth Teich, a psychoanalyst, and George Weisz, an inventor. Her parents, both immigrants, arrived in England around 1938. Rachel's father was a Hungarian Jewish immigrant, and her mother, from Vienna, had Italian and Austrian Jewish heritage. Rachel has a younger sister, Minnie, who is a curator and photographer.

Rachel began modeling at the age of 14 and started acting during her studies at Cambridge University. While there, she co-founded a theater company called "Talking Tongues," which won the Guardian Award at the Edinburgh Festival for its production of Neville Southall's "Washbag." Rachel then appeared on stage in Sean Mathias's revival of Noël Coward's "Design For Living," earning a nomination for Most Promising Newcomer from the London Critics' Circle.

Rachel has starred in numerous films, including "The Mummy" (1999),"Enemy at the Gates" (2001),and "Stealing Beauty" (1996). Her other notable movie roles include "The Shape of Things" (2003),"About a Boy" (2002),"Constantine" (2005),and "The Constant Gardener" (2005),for which she received critical acclaim and won several prestigious awards, including an Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Rachel has a son with her former partner, director Darren Aronofsky. In June 2011, she married actor Daniel Craig, best known for his role as James Bond, in a private ceremony in New York.
