Viktor Sergachev is a renowned Russian actor, born Viktor Nikolaevich Sergachev on November 24, 1934, in Borzya, Chita province, Siberian Russia, Soviet Union (now Russia).
Growing up, Sergachev was fascinated with theatre and was actively involved in his school's amateur drama club. He further honed his craft by studying acting under Pavel Massalsky at Moscow Art Theatre School of Acting from 1953 to 1956, graduating in 1956 as an actor.
In 1956, Sergachev joined Oleg Efremov as a founding member of the Sovremennik theatre company. For 14 years, he was a permanent member of the troupe at Sovremennik Theatre in Moscow, where he shared the stage with notable Russian actors such as Oleg Efremov, Evgeniy Evstigneev, Galina Volchek, Stanislav Lyubshin, Andrey Myagkov, and others.
During his time at Sovremennik, Sergachev shone in Anton Chekhov's plays, including Ivanov, Chaika (The Seagull),Dyadya Vanya (Uncle Vanya),and Vishnevy sad (The Cherry Orchard). His most notable roles were as Minister of Tender Feelings in Golyy Korol (The Naked King) and as Kleshch in Maxim Gorky's Na dne (The Lower Bottoms).
Since 1971, Sergachev has been a permanent member of the troupe at Moscow Art Theatre (MKhAT). He has worked alongside renowned Russian actors such as Anatoli Ktorov, Olga Androvskaya, Angelina Stepanova, Mikhail Yanshin, and others.
Sergachev has been designated People's Actor of Russia and has directed several plays at Moscow Art Theatre. He is married to Bulgarian philologist Vanya Sergacheva, and the couple has two daughters. The Sergachevs reside in Moscow, Russia.
