Tom embarked upon his illustrious performing career at the tender age of seven, joining the esteemed Trinity Church (New York City) boy's choir alongside his brother Steve. As a young and talented member of the ensemble, they had the privilege of performing in numerous Christmas concerts at the iconic Carnegie Hall. One notable highlight of his early years in the choir was being selected in 1963 to participate in the ceremonial lighting of the New York Stock Exchange's Christmas tree on Wall Street.
